I came to know about him for the first time through the book "sophies world" ...Later did some reading on him.
He is one of those elite philosophers of all time ... His stature goes with kant, freud etc.

Philosophers like Spinoza or Gibran who rightly saw God as a philosophical concept advocated a life based on contentment of needs and censured tendency of accumulation attributive to human greed.

I personally feel Maslow hierarchy of needs is a very rational model of human behavior and in reality need of self actualization comes much later in a normal human being. If we accept the human as they exist, the effort should be on developing rationality so that futility of greed becomes transparent a little early in life.

In Spinoza’s own words “in life it is before all things useful to perfect the understanding or reason, as far as we can, and in this alone man's highest happiness or blessedness consists, indeed blessedness is nothing else but the contentment .
